Analysis report of Ukrainian Stock Exchange
activity in year 2001.
Exchange activity indicators within account period have characterized of
significant decrease in compare to the same period in year 2000. In 2001 exchange turnover
was 70,7 mill UAH (in 2000 233,3 mill UAH pursuant). Such fluctuation has occurred because
of the follows:
- Traded volume decrease on the primary market that connected with
significant decrease of SPF propositions to sell shares of investment attractive
enterprises namely in energy and metallurgy sphere;
- Implementation the Law of Ukraine "On the order of taxpayers
debts repayment before the budget and state target funds" dated 21.12.2000. It has
caused significant recession of propositions' volume on the market of Pension Fund bills.
The result was recession of asks in this exchange market sphere.
Exchange Infrastructure
By the end of year 2001 the 140 brokerage companies are registered on USE, they are
members of USE and members of self-regulative organization of USE (83 traders operate in
capital city, the others are in the regions). During the year 15 securities traders became
the members of USE SRO and 23 traders were excluded. The structure of USE SRO members
consists of 32 banks and 108 securities traders.
Exchange Listing
In 2001 the number of issuers, whose securities were admitted to the official quotation on
USE, has decreased. By the end of year 2001 there were securities of 386 issuers in
Exchange listing. The changes could be explained by securities' exclusion of issuers, who
had been listed on USE in privatization process for 1995-2000 period; it's secondary
exchange turnover is absent.
In exchange register, in department of non-official quotation were 377 issuers. 9 issuers
represented official USE listing. The listing structure was as follows 3 banks and 6
Joint-Stock Companies, which were created during the privatization process.
Traded values
Within year 2001 there were performed 123 trading days (311 trading sessions) on USE and
its branches. In the sessions 108,95 mill securities for the sum 70,7 mill UAH have been
realized.
Monthly average of traded values has made 5,9 mill UAH, per trading day - 0,6 mill UAH (In
compare to 2000 monthly average of traded values made 26,2 mill UAH, per trading day - 1,3
mill UAH).
During the year 503 securities transactions were made on USE and its branches (on the
average 4 transactions for trading day). The greatest number of transactions was fixed in
February, the 77. In compare to 2000 the number of transactions decreased in 2,8 times.
The maximum indicator of traded volume in August could be explained by the realization on
secondary exchange market the businessmen' bills of metallurgy area such as JSC
"Pivnichny GZK" and "Metal-Invest Ltd".
Structure of exchange turnover
In compare to 2000 the structure of exchange turnover in 2001 has characterized of
significant changes. If in 2000 86,7% of exchange turnover occupied by shares (202,3 mill
UAH), and bills - 13,3% (30,9 mill UAH), but in 2001 the greatest exchange turnover (63%)
occupied by bills (44,8 mill UAH), and shares occupied 37% of exchange turnover (25,9 mill
UAH).
As well as the previous years the leading position in structure of the exchange turnover
in 2001 occupied the secondary market - 60% of total exchange turnover (in 2000 - 7%
pursuant), primary market occupied 40% of total exchange turnover (in 2000 - 93%
pursuant).
In May 25, 2001 the General Meeting of shareholders of Ukrainian Stock
Exchange performed. There were elected members of Exchange Council, Auditing and
Arbitration Commission, Council of Old hands. By Chairman of the Board of Ukrainian Stock
Exchange was elected Valentin Oskolsky unanimously.
In October 2001 Ukrainian Stock Exchange celebrated its 10-years
anniversary of State Registration by Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
In 2001 Exchange was continuing its scientific & methodical work, educational &
publishing activity, work of staff training for national securities market, strengthening
the international connections with foreign stock exchanges and international
organizations.
